Paul the Psychic Octopus predicts Spain Will Win The World Cup

Yes that’s right Paul the octopus with psychic powers has predicted that Spain will win the World Cup against the Netherlands on Sunday – I can’t wait, I’m taking Paul’s advice, my money’s on Spain. He also predicted Germany would take third place.

Paul lives at the Sea Life Aquarium in the city of Overhauled in western German, he makes his predictions by choosing a mussel from one of two Perspex boxes lowered into his tank. Each box bears one of the flags of the two competing teams and once Paul has made his choose he simply lifts the lid and retrieves his lunch.

Paul has become an international celebrity after predicting all of Germany's World Cup wins and their defeat by Serbia in the group stages and by Spain on Wednesday.

Animals, predicting the outcome of sporting events is nothing new, I know of a parrot called Danny-boy who belonged to a man from Littleport, Danny was rather good at choosing winning horses. His owner would sit down with a newspaper and read out the names of each horse and Danny, listening intently, would squawk “sherbet dip!” when ever he came to the winners name – and yes, remarkably enough, 9 out of 10 horses he chose came in first, and he made his owner (who will remain anonymous) a very wealthy man. 

What ever happened to that Parrot? And why sherbet dip?
