A Great Year For GCSE Results at Soham Village College

It was good news for the majority of students at Soham Village College awaiting their GCSE results this morning, according to the press release… 

      ‘Soham Village College is pleased to report another strong set of results, particularly in the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science where each saw more than 75% students achieving a grade A* - C.’ 

‘A number of the students achieved over ten GCSEs each at grade A or above. Jenny Richards, Rebecca Biss, Alexandra Craven, Charlie Ford, Dale Green, Isabel Rice, Lydia Vince, Matthew Grimster, Christopher Hunt and Hannah Pyrah were among the top performers.’

I was at the College myself this morning and there was quite a buzz about the place, I had a chat to a few of the students: Ryan Hutton told me that he got an A in PE and an A in Drama along with Cs in History, Maths and English, Ryan said he’s very happy with his results and that he plans to go to Impington Village College to study Performing Arts. Sammy Webb got six Cs, she needed five to get into 6th Form so she is very pleased. Paige Skelton achieved Cs and Bs and is aiming to go to University in America. Another happy student is Robyn Howe who received an A for Drama, two Bs in English and a B in Music.

What I found so inspiring about these young people, is whether or not they got straight As, Bs or Cs, they all came across so positive and ambitious, they have aims for the future and I admire that, because lets face it being a teenager is not easy; from what I can remember. 

In my experience it’s not always those who get the top marks that go on to be successful in life; many people I know who didn’t do fantastic in their exams have had extraordinary career’s, done some amazing things and enjoy life to the full (a bit of a sweeping statement I know) so there’s hope for me yet!
