Having changed a lot over the years, The Royal Standard has gradually transformed into a cavernous open plan pub that somehow has managed to retain its traditional atmosphere despite its size. The rear end of the pub is often devoted to regular live music nights, offering a heady combination of folk music, swing jazz, rock, blues and Elvis impersonators. It offers up to four real ales, including Green King IPA and Old Speckled Hen, plus a typical pub lunch menu – and a traditional fried English breakfast on a Sunday.

The Royal Standard
The Royal Standard is an excellent family pub on Fore Hill that offers a decent range of local ales and lagers at brilliant prices. A pub that offers live music and lovely beer garden in the summer, they have a brilliant food menu. Their full English breakfasts for only £4.95 attract customers from a far and are of a fantastic standard regardless of the price.
