We visited the Lazy Otter in Early November and were thoroughly impressed. We'd recently heard of the new reputation, but we were still a little put off as we knew what it used to be like. However we're so glad we made the effort to visit. We have since been twice more. The staff are superb. Nice and friendly, very welcoming and will go out of there way to help you out. The food is also impressive. Its mainly Pub food, but don't let put you off because its really good pub food and the 3 times we've been in the Specials also look amazing...and different! On our last visit we had a Fish Wellington with Pernod & Orange sauce! Crazy, but very tasty. And as for the Sunday Roasts. I defy anyone in Ely to find me a better one for the price. The only one criticism I'd make are that the portions are slightly too big. We'd have loved to tackle the Dessert Cabinet but unfortunately we were stuffed after our Roasty! We also have to mention the Drinks and the Bar. It isn't much to look at, however with the Roaring Fire, nice and cosy sofas, a small but nice looking Wine List and perfect. The best bit though is the selection of Local Real Ales (Milton Tiki is superb) and Ciders (try the Westons Ginger Twist on Draught) and the fact that the Manager seems to know his way round a Cocktail Shaker. There was a list of 10 or 12 Cocktails but we overheard him tell someone else that we could make anything with in reason as along as he had the ingredients. All in all we would highly recommend the Lazy Otter again. We spent many years avoiding it, however it is now firmly back on our radar. We just can't wait for the warmer weather to make use of the huge Garden on the River and let the kids let of steam in the play park.

ReportI've been going to the Lazy Otter for many years now and have never been able to fault the place. It has a nice riverside location, reasonably priced food and an interesting selection of beers, including some nice real ales. If I want to get out of Ely for a night and don't feel like driving all the way to Cambridge, it provides a great alternative venue for a meeting with friends.
