and Aldreth celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the annual Blossoms &
Bygones festival in style, by taking the villages back to the 1940s.
Houses
in both villages were draped with red, white and blue bunting, while Union Jack
flags could be seen throughout both villages. In addition to the tractor rides
that transported people around, a vintage Double Decker bus was
enlisted to shuttle people to Aldreth, where it passed a 'Welcome To The 1940s'
sign and a Home Guard checkpoint.
Aldreth
itself was full of vintage cars and people dressed immaculately in 1940s
clothing and uniforms and if you were lucky you got to see Winston Churchill
address the crowds. Most of the stalls and displays were themed around VE Day,
such as the 'Pin A Moustache On Hitler' competition.
Alongside
the more traditional folk dancing entertainment, the Arkenstall Centre in
Haddenham also boasted a 1940s Lindyhop dancing demonstration.
