I know it’s all ‘Terribly British’ to talk about the weather but that is exactly what I’m going to do.

It’s true, we are a nation obsessed with the elements and the worse the weather gets, the more we want to talk about it. I’ve also noticed that this ‘obsession’ appears to correlate with age: the older we get the more we blabber on about it and it doesn’t stop there, when things go wrong, particularly in the lives others, it gives us a perverse sense of satisfaction and there’s nothing more compelling than hearing about other peoples misfortunes…

“He shot the boy in the head then took his iphone and ran off into the night - Mum’s car was hit by a lorry, amazingly mum walked away without a scratch but Nan was not so lucky, all they could find was her handbag - Bullterrier swallows budgie then chocks to death – Oops I’ve spilt milk all over the kitchen table!”

If it’s bad news then we want to know, we just can’t get enough of it.

Anyway, getting back to the weather, because of the recent wet conditions (I’m looking out of my kitchen window as I write this and it looks like a damp November afternoon) I thought I would have a quick look on the internet to see what the weather forecast is for the next few days and I found a great website that is linked to a Weather Station located in Ely - it’s brilliant! It has these clock-dial-thingies that show you the wind speed and the direction it’s blowing in and little meters that give humidity and air pressure readings, and measurements for rainfall, wind-chill, temperature and more, all in real time as well as a four-day forecast – I love it!

Now that’s not such bad news is it?
