Problem with drunks in Ely. We at 3At3 have a major problem with drunks who congregate on the bench by the 3At3Cafe terrace in Three Cups Walk. They are abusive, intimidating to the female staff and customers and their antisocial behaviour and habits are disgusting. We have complained to the police on several occasions but they seem powerless to do anything. Are any other businesses having similar problems in Ely? Come on Ely council, do something!

I've had problem with drunks on the cathedral green so I sympathise with the problem.

What did the police say when you called them about the problem outside 3At3?

The police said that they are trying to move them out of Ely Center as they have continual problems. They also said continue to report problems every time to help them. A policeman did visit on Saturday and was very helpful. I think if everyone suffering from this anti social behavior calls the police then it will help.

The police say that they are dealing with the problem. A spokesperson for Cambs Police has said: "We are taking these reports seriously and in response have increased patrols in the area. Anyone found committing anti-social behaviour faces a fine or even arrest for gross indecency in a public place."
Let's hope so, but anyone who lives in Ely will know that it's rare to see a policeman patrolling. If anyone notices an increased police presence in the area, let us know here.

unfortunately the police have lost their power and are no longer able to do anything positive. You can thank the European court of human rights for that. a while ago the bobby would have kept moving them on until they got fed up and went to bother someone else. You will find them living about the fieldside area as they have problems as well.

What a load of rubbish! Yes it's a problem but the underlying cause is lack of local jobs, lack of policing and lack of social responsibility.
"European Court of human Rights".... lol... Someone reads the Daily Fail!

yeah... no ElyElectrical, it's nothing to do with the European court, it's one of those things we Brits have managed to screw up all by ourselves.

Don't bash the Brits! Having read all the comments on this topic, it seems that everyone is trying to blame someone else for the fact that there are some people getting drunk in a town centre and hanging about making a general nuisance of themselves - woopee. It's been happening for years and years and years - so get over it. Report any such behaviour to the Police and let them deal with it. People are very quick to say that they don't see enough Police around, or that they are not dealing with issue, but in fact a lot of people just walk on by and don't report such issues. The Police cannot be everywhere all of the time and unless you are cruising the streets looking for them then you might not see them.
