Car parking charges could soon be introduced in Ely, as residents are being given their final chance to voice objections to County Council plans to take over the district's parking. What do you think about the idea to introduce parking charges to the car parks and streets of Ely?

I say no to car parking charges in Ely. It's a small town really doesn't have a car parking problem - parking meters and and car parking charges really aren't necessary. All they'll do is create an industry - raising charges to cover the costs of the administration of the policy.

Couldn't agree more! It's a disgrace that the Councils can't get their books in order so they start charging people to park...and what a joke when the shops are all struggling because of online shopping, car park charges aren't really going to help pull people into town now are they? And it's just as annoying when you get these stupid people who can't manage the barriers or forget to pay and then hold up the traffic while they sort themselves out. A VERY firm No from me!

Is the proposed scheme gonna include reserved parking for residents? Hard enough to park near West End already, if shoppers are driven out here by parking charges it could get a LOT worse!
More info pls or it's a HELL no from me.

The reason many people go to Ely to do their shopping is the free parking. Take that away and businesses will suffer. When charges are introduced its never a token amount just to cover costs

Not happy with the idea of parking charges in Ely? Have your say at a public meeting being staged in the council chambers of the offices of East Cambs District Council in Ely. The event is being held at 6.30pm on Thursday September 15 and has been organised and funded by 'Say NO' anti-parking charge campaigners and members of the Ely Traders' Association. More than 10,500 people have signed a petition opposing the proposals.
