Sports Centres and bus passengers are set to benefit from grants approved this week totalling over £35,000.

At Thursday’s (7 October) Community Services Committee, Councillors agreed funding for the following projects from the East Cambridgeshire Community Facilities (Section 106) Fund:

• New village bus shelters for Mepal Parish Council - £5940.35

• A new multi purpose play area for Kennett and Kentford - £10,000

• A new access road to Littleport Leisure Centre - £10,915

• Internal improvements to Burwell sports centre which will particularly benefit young people and sports clubs - £10,000

• A new Notice Board for Stuntney - £495

The Community Facilities Fund is there to support projects and schemes throughout the District with money obtained from developers as part of the expansion of East Cambridgeshire.

Cllr Peter Cresswell, Chairman of the Community Services Committee, said: “It is always encouraging to see how the money we negotiated from developers is spent to benefit the communities throughout the district. In this case over £35,000 will a huge difference to those who use buses in Mepal, play in Kennett and who use the sports centre in Burwell.

“In these difficult financial times, it is important to make sure we support local projects and people where we can. The money in our Section 106 Community Facilities Fund is there to benefit the places where we live, play and work – it is there to be spent to improve lives and I look forward to hearing where else it will be spent in the months to come.”

How do you feel about these awards?
