Ely's Christmas & New Year Guided Walking Tours

This Christmas and New Year, there will be a series of guided walks in Ely for anyone who wants to see the city in its winter beauty. These tours are beginning to become a traditional cornerstone of the annual tourism calendar and they offer an enjoyable and educational opportunity to see some parts of the city that you might other wise overlook.

A wide range of themed tours of Ely will be taking place throughout the Christmas holiday. These enjoyable cultural walks will enable visitors and locals alike to hear some of the stories that give the district its rich heritage. "Our Christmas and New Year walks are fast becoming a festive tradition in their own right with hundreds of people over the years following our guides as they learn more about our famous city," says Tracey Harding, Tourism & Town Centres Team Leader at East Cambridgeshire District Council.

"The walks are a great way to see Ely with many people discovering new things about places and buildings they have walked past for years without noticing," she continues. "Last year most of our spaces went early as people bought them as presents for friends and loved ones so if you fancy doing something a little different this Christmas please get in touch quick."

Christmas Combination Tours: Meet at Oliver Cromwell's House for a Guided City Walk of Historical Ely then return for morning coffee and Danish pastry before joining a guide on a fascinating tour of Cromwell's House. Haunted Happenings at Oliver Cromwell's House: Tour the atmospheric house at dusk to hear the stories of ghostly encounters recalled by previous residents, visitors and staff. New Year's Eve Guided Walk: A historical guided tour of Ely through it's Architecture. Leaving from Oliver Cromwell's House to learn about the wealth of architecture of some of Ely's period, historical buildings. All tickets are £2.50 per person.
