A group of students from Ely College had a fantastic day out recently at the WorldSkills London 2011 event held at ExCel in Docklands, London, taking away a great deal from the experience.

Billed as 'the greatest skills competition, careers and jobs event on the planet!', the WorldSkills show was being hosted in the UK for the first time in 20 years. Designed to leave a lasting and positive legacy for education and skills training, WorldSkills 2011 brought together 1,000 young people from over 50 countries, competing in 46 skills ranging from creative arts and fashion to transportation and logistics.

The Year 9 and Year 10 students from Ely College were not only able to watch the competitions going on in each area, they were also able to have a go at a new skill and take advantage of the impartial information and advice on offer to help them plan their future careers. They came away 'buzzing' about what they had seen.

Mrs Pritchett, work-related learning and enterprise co-ordinator at Ely College said: "The day was a great success and the students had a great time trying different skills. Having spoken to several parents since, the students could not stop talking about the day and it did help a few think about what they would like to do in the future."
