The Ely Festive Fun Run is on target to raise £3,000 for Arthur Rank House, say the organisers of the 6k dash. Over 100 children and adults of all ages took part in the race and were met at the finishing line by Santa Claus himself.

The event was staged on the same weekend as the big Christmas lights switch on and competitors of all abilities ran, jogged and walked the course, which took the entrants all around the historic city of Ely. Some of the runners had little or no experience whilst others were aiming for a personal best, but the spirit of the event was to take part rather than to win. The real aim of the event was to make a huge difference to the lives of those cared for by Arthur Rank House.

Tasha Auburn, Events Officer at the Charity said: "We were so delighted to see so many people come out to support the event. The Fancy dress outfits were brilliant, from giant parcels to Christmas elf's it was great to see participants have so much enthusiasm to have fun and raise funds. We hope the event will raise £3,000 for the Hospice, which, translated into services, would provide 12 nights of Hospice at Home care and support to patients living with a terminal illness."

The event delighted its headline sponsor, Archer & Archer of Ely. Michael Judkins, one of the partners of Archer and Archer, said: "A number of our staff took part and as a social occasion the event is clearly going from strength to strength."

The overall winner of the race was Harry Law, although he very nearly kept running at the end, as he did not realize he had passed the finishing line. The fastest female was Wendy Dixon and the fancydress winners were the Deas family.
