Ely College Will Snap Up Your Old Cameras

Ely College needs the help of the city's photography community. The college is one of a few secondary schools in the UK to use 35mm film and darkroom development facilities to teach photography as art for GCSE, AS-Level and A-Level study, but the students are sorely in need of 35mm manual SLR cameras.

The course is a popular option for local students, and the quality of their work is outstanding. In a recent GCSE moderation, both the chief moderator and general moderator commented on the college's exemplary photography centre which, at GCSE, consistently achieves 100% A* to C grade, with most students getting A* to B grades.
The continued success of the subject at Ely College is dependent on having access to working 35mm manual SLR cameras. With the advent of digital photography, however, these are increasingly difficult to attain, and increasingly expensive to maintain. The current cohort of 52 photography students has access to only ten working cameras (and 18 broken ones).
If any Ely People reader or photography enthusiast has a working 35mm manual SLR camera sat gathering dust, the Ely College Art Department will gladly find a home for it – and will ensure it is put to good use in training the next generation of photographic artists.
