Ely Charity Gig Will Rock The Maltings On Saturday

The Maltings in Ely will once again be pulsing to the sound of local rock talent on Saturday October 27, when the second annual MickFest concert is staged.
Last year 20 acts played at the inaugural MickFest concert, several reforming especially for the occasion. The gig raised £1800 for charity and commemorated the memory of local musician Mick Gillett, who died in 2011 at the age of just 51. Promoter Lee Gillett hopes that the appearance of many acts new to MickFest will help the second concert raise just as much for this year's good cause, East Anglian Children's Hospices.
"MickFest 2012 is shaping up to be even better than last year," says Lee Gillett. "We have a great variety of bands and artists performing in both the main hall and the acoustic area, ranging from a Queen tribute band through to bands and solo acts who play their own material. We've even got a 70s and 80s disco too.
"I am particularly looking forward to seeing the appearance of Cara Winter, who's Dad is Keith Winter guitarist with 80s band Shakatak," he continues. "She is a quirky and very original songwriter/performer who reminds me of Kate Bush. Then of course we have 90s Ely band Beach Blanket Bingo, who are reforming especially for the event and who feature three members of Crossland, who reformed for last year's event."
MickFest 2012 will feature TnT, Cara Winter, The Loop, Lady Gray, Lewis Mokler, Alice Walker, Beach Blanket Bingo, Chuck Cash & The Fenland Cowboys, Prince Among Thieves, Will Robert, Clevor Trevor, The Blackjack Blues Band, Sammy K's All Star Tribute Show, The Dead Swingers, The Podium, Roger Douglas & Andy Cross, Martin Pearl, Saxy Al and Duncan Earlam's 2 in Tents.
Mickfest 2012 is on Saturday October 27 from 2pm until midnight. Tickets can be purchased for £10 from the MickFest website or from Jim Dandy Men's Barbers in Market Street. They will cost £12 on the door.
